Music Monday – TOPS

Happy Music Monday! It’s a beautiful bank holiday Monday so I hope you’re reading this somewhere outside on your phone! This week’s focus is on on a Canadian band called TOPS – or Tender Opposites. Forming Montreal in 2011, they released their self-titled debut album in 2012. While the album received generally positive reviews, it wasn’t until their more recent release, 2014’s Picture You Staring that the band really broke through. Featuring a more pop-driven style of songwriting and bursting with catchy hooks, I’ve been spinning it for weeks and finally decided it was time to share them with you! I’ve picked out their single Way to be Loved, a smooth percussion-driven retro tune which reminds me of Fleetwood Mac and their more modern contemporaries Metronomy and Tennis. It’s fantastically elegant guitar pop at its finest, and I’m really looking forward to seeing TOPS in London on 14th May. Take a listen below and let me know in the comments what you think. I’ll be back with more music next Monday. Have a great week!
