Journeys New – Going abroad

IMG_3336 Last year saw my husband and I go to Riga, Latvia in November to meet new family and enjoy the Christmas markets. This year sees space for several short trips abroad and I’m so excited. We’ve not done much traveling abroad, in fact Cuba and Latvia are the only two places we’ve been together (we’ve been to lots of places separately though) and exploring Europe together is something that we’ve both been wanting to do for a while so we’ve booked a few places already and are thoroughly looking forward to some time away together. Budapest, Hungary

First up this year is Budapest in early May, just a few weeks away now. Squee! Budapest is somewhere that we’ve wanted to go for a really long time as it’s somewhere that’s talked about a lot. I’m a bit of a history buff but my husband really isn’t. The other half likes the visuals of a place, buildings, pictures etc and sampling different food and cultures but doesn’t like to delve into the history of a place to much, unless it’s being acted out like Hampton Court Palace. There are some fab spas and thermal baths to enjoy here as well as some amazing scenery of the Royal Palace, the famous Danube River, and it’s incredible bridges, the zoo, the Hungarian Parliament and Heroes square. We’ve chosen to stay in a little Airbnb apartment right near the English built Chain Bridge that joins Buda to Peste. We’re hoping for great weather so that we can sit outside and enjoy the beer. Venice, Italy

Second up is a short three day visit to Venice for my birthday in mid-June.  Venice is another city aside from Paris that is famous for lovers and romance.  It’s actually a cluster of 117 islands joined together by canals and bridges. There are no cars just boats and lots of water. It’s also well known land marks such as the Grand Canal, Gondola rides, boat trips and explorations of nearby islands. There are some fab museums, art galleries, the famous bronze horses of Saint Mark, and some really amazing instagram-able scenery. Venice looks breathtakingly beautiful and I really can’t wait to get there. What a treat! Riga, Latvia

We visited the beautiful city of Riga last Christmas. We took in the markets, drank Latvian cider, ate Latvian food at an amazing chain restaurant called Lido as well as a medieval restaurant complete with sword fights too. We also tried to escape a fake prison (the escape rooms, so fun!) and met with lovely family. We want to go back to this incredible city but this time go in the summer (August) so that we can visit the beaches and perhaps take a few traveling companions too in the form of my husbands mum and dad too. It’s set to be a fab trip and Latvian beaches are supposed to be clean, and it’s also supposed to get quite hot there in the summer.  We’re looking forward to going back to see family but also take in the sun, see fab views, drink yummy beer, wine and cider with amazing company. I’m so excited! Are you planning to do some traveling this year? Let me know in the comments below. Happy Travelling!
