Happy Monday! This year has been a slow starter in terms of new releases, but I get the feeling that this is just the calm before the storm. One of the big releases coming later in the year is the new album from Grimes, the recording name of 26 year old Canadian Claire Elise Boucher. Last week she released a demo called Realiti, a cut which won’t make it onto the album because she lost the original recording. Taking a slightly more orthodox turn from her earlier material, this new track has audible lyrics and even bigger hooks. Grimes’ follow up to 2012’s Visions is due out later this year and if this demo is anything to go by she’s going to blow up big time. Happy Monday! I hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend and are ready to face an exciting week. Let’s kick things off with a track from a London duo Greg Hughes and Tessa Murray, better known as Still Corners. I’ve picked out their track Fireflies, a standout from 2012 which was named Best New Track by renowned music website Pitchfork. The tune is a slow groove featuring some thick layers of synth, giving it a sensual retro 80’s vibe mixed with a more modern popular house sound. It reminds me of Nite Jewel at her finest. Happy Monday! It’s the start of another beautiful week, so let’s kick it off with a tune from my favourite Swedish pop star Lykke Li. She blew people away last year with her dark, moody album I Never Learn – the ultimate break up album, but there was a time when she made music that was… well, happy! I’ve gone back to 2008 and picked our her track Little Bit from the album Youth Novels, a poppy track with a wicked ukulele. Check out the track below and let me know in the comments section what you’ve been spinning lately. Happy listening!
Happy Monday! I hope you had a fantastic weekend. I wanted to kick of this week with a tune from a band called Wild Nothing, the solo project of artist Jack Tatum. Hailing from Virginia, USA, Wild Nothing broke through with their huge album Gemini 2010, an album packed with summer indie tunes. I’ve picked out the track Summer Holiday, a song which has scored the soundtrack to a number of summer parties, road trips and weekends away since its release. Happy Monday! The weather outside is getting a little more mild, but still not enough for me to venture out for any notable amount of time. Instead I’ve been keeping myself warm indoors and catching up on cooking and a lot of TV. One of the best things I’ve watched recently was HBO’s The Leftovers, which featured today’s featured track as its lead. I’m not too familiar with James Blake, but really love his track Retrograde, a stripped down haunting, wintery tune which features his quite impressive vocal range. Happy Monday! This is gonna be a great week, so let’s get it started with a great track. You may remember Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know, a track which also featured the female solo artist Kimbra, who is a fantastic musician in her own right. The 24 year old New Zealand native released her debut album Vows in 2011 to critical acclaim, and I’ve picked out the standout track Something in the Way You Are. An upbeat, catchy, soulful track with a great percussive beat, it’s a absolute vocal masterclass. Check it out in the video below and let me know what you think in the comments section along with what you’ve been listening to lately. Have a great week!
It’s the first Monday of February already, wow where has January gone? February is the month of love with Valentines day just around the corner and the release of that long awaited film (whispered) Fifty Shades of Grey almost upon us. I heard this beautiful song Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding the other day and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head since. This just happens to be the theme tune to the raunchy film and although I won’t be watching it, the music video does gives us a bit of a insight into what the film has in store for it’s viewers. It also shows Ellie Goulding taking a leaf out of Ed Sheeran’s book as she’s shown ballroom dancing – very well too I might add. This song, the second from the soundtrack of Fifty Shades of Grey has also recently just gone to number one in the UK iTunes Chart. Let me know what you think to this beautiful number in the comments below. Happy Monday!
Happy Monday! This week I’m kicking things off with an upbeat slice of guitar pop from a band called Broncho. I’ve picked out a track from their 2014 album Just Enough Hip to be a Woman called School Historian – a catchy track about a missed school reunion. The song is guaranteed to be stuck in your head for the next 3 weeks, so sit back and just let it take over.

Fountain. Carrying a slow, booming pace with a chilled Trance kind of vibe, this was undoubtedly one of the best releases of its kind at the back end of 2014. Sure to be doing big things in 2015 with their 3rd album Blue, Iamamiwhoami are a band to keep a keen eye on.
