Blogger Interview Series: White Cotton Peonies

AChatwithMelfromWhiteCottonPeonies2 Today’s interview is with the gorgeous Mel from White Cotton Peonies, a beautiful blog about the trials and tribulations of living in Windsor. I lived in Windsor for a year in 2011 so it’s nice to catch up and find out more about the beautiful royal town and this lovely lady. The most recent post tells of her visit to Nepal with her fiance’s family last year and a trip to the Castle to catch up with the Duke himself in her beautiful Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown. Lucky Lady! 1. Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself and your blog.   My name’s Mel. I’m a 30-something lifestyle blogger who lives in Windsor with her fiancé and two cats! I blog over at White Cotton Peonies (http://whitecottonpeonies.com) and write about my every day adventures, most recently my cooking escapades (nobody has died in the creation of these meals…. YET). 2. How long have you been blogging for and what inspired you to start it?  I’ve actually been blogging since 2006. At the time, I started my YouTube channel and my blog www.randommel.com. I started the blog because I went for a job interview and they asked if I could blog, so I obviously agreed and then ran home to google what a blog was. The rest is history. As time went by though, I felt that I had exhausted the videos (there’s only so much you can do in silent videos) and decided that I needed a new channel which was when I started White Cotton Peonies. 3. What’s the best thing about having your blog channel? I love the friends that I’ve made through blogging. There’s a real sense of community and you can be anywhere in the world and still feel like you’re connected to people. It’s also really encouraged me to discover passions that I never knew I had, such as photography – although that’s very much a work in progress. 4. What’s you’re top tips for budding bloggers?  My main tip would be to write what you feel passionately about and maintain your integrity. It’s easy to get swept up in blogging trends – for example writing tips or Sunday roundup posts, but you have to do what interests you and for the pure enjoyment and love of what you’re doing. That way you’ll always remain consistent and won’t become Google Analytic obsessed and despondent when you’ve received fewer views than you hoped. Whilst it can be easy to accept money for sponsored posts, it’s also important to remain true to yourself and so only collaborate with brands if you feel that they are offering something of value to you and your readers – otherwise you risk selling out 😉 5. What does a normal day look like for you?  I work full time running an influencer engagement agency and so as soon as I get up in the morning I’m checking emails and responding as we work with companies and influencers all over the world. I then spend the day reading blogs, coming up with creative concepts, managing clients and speaking to influencers to find effective ways of raising awareness for our client’s products in a way our influencers love. At lunch I might pop out to grab a bite to eat and try to find a sneaky Instagram opportunity whilst I’m out and then as soon as I’m done with work – I head home to see my lovely fiancé and to write content for my blog. It’s non-stop! 6. Who’re your biggest style influences? I’m in love with the style of Thank Fifi, Stylonylon, Chiara Ferragni and The Elgin Avenue. I could go on, there’s just so many! 7. Who are your favourite bloggers/vloggers?  Gosh, there’s so many. Obviously, I’d have to say Emily Hearts! I’m also a massive fan of Hemsley + Hemsley (http://hemsleyandhemsley.com) for food, Burkatron (http://burkatron.com) for lifestyle, A Beach Cottage (http://abeachcottage.com/) for interiors, Jazabelle’s Diary (http://jazzabellesdiary.blogspot.co.uk/) for fashion, Rock n Roll Bride (http://www.rocknrollbride.com/) for weddings. ARGH so many! 8. What are your three favourite beauty products right now? I adore Omorvizca products having read about them on Caroline Hirons’ site (my beauty guru). I love their Thermal Cleansing Balm, Blue Diamond Resurfacing Peel and Blue Diamond Super Cream. You might be able to buy other products cheaper, but they last such a long time and you won’t use anything ever again. Definitely an investment worth making. 9. What lip product have you got in your hand bag right now? My new Bobbi Brown High Shimmer Lip Gloss in Pink Tulle 2 which I’m obsessed with. 10. What are your three fashion essentials? My Laboutin black suede boots. I’ve gone through the soles twice but I refuse to throw them out. J Brand jeans. I hate jean shopping. I think most girls do? However, you can’t help but feel good in J Brand’s and they last you forever. A decent blazer. I personally love Kooples for blazers. Because I can often spend the day flitting from seeing bloggers to meetings with brands, it helps transition any outfit. 11.What music are you listening to right now?  Cheerleader by Omi. I need to stop listening to it on repeat but it’s making me feel summery.

Blogger Interview Series: The LoveCats Inc

Girl standing infant of pink background This weeks blogger is super cool Helen from TheLoveCatsInc.  I read her blog most days so I’m uber happy to have her on Emilyhearts to answer some questions about her site and give a little advice to budding bloggers.  I hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think in the comments below. 1. Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself and your blog. I’m Helen, an account manager at a PR/digital marketing company and a magazine journalism graduate. I blog at thelovecatsinc.com which covers personal style, beauty and some lifestyle bits like baking and more! 2. How long have you been blogging for and what inspired you to start it? I’ve been blogging for almost three years on (15th May!) and I needed a place I could ramble about style. I used to read a lot of other blogs and thought I could have a crack at it myself! 3. What’s the best thing about having your blog channel? The community is really important to me. As cliche as it is, my readers do mean a lot 🙂 4. What’s you’re top tips for budding bloggers? Always stay true to what you like, as there’s no point posting ‘popular’ topics if you’ve got no interest in them! Let your personality come across and remember it takes time, no one goes from 0 to 10k readers overnight! 5. What does a normal day look like for you? If it’s Mon-Fri, I’m working so it’s pretty boring haha! I come home and do a bit of blogging on a nighttime though as I like to relax that way. On a weekend, I take outfit snaps and all of my beauty pics for the week ahead so I’m fairly busy blog-wise on Sat and Sun! 6. Who’re your biggest style influences? I would say other bloggers first and foremost. I love street style as it’s more aspirational than magazines and photoshoots! I adore a lot of scandi bloggers, especially Caroline from Carolines Mode and some closer to home like Megan from Pages by Megan and Camilla from Into The Fold. 7. Who are your favourite bloggers/vloggers? I wrote about my favourites from last year here and two more posts here and here about my favourite bloggers! I try to write a post every month showcasing my faves! 8. What are your three favourite beauty products right now? The Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm as always, I also love the new Origins Original Skin Serum and the Zelens Eye Cream. 9. What lip product have you got in your hand bag right now? NARS Audacious Lipstick in Vera as it’s the best vibrant magenta shade! 10.What are your three fashion essentials? A good fitting pair of jeans, a staple pair of black boots like my Isabel Marant dicker boots and a crossbody bag! 11.What music are you listening to right now? Typically some house mixes on youtube haha

Blogger Interview Series: A quick chat with Bec Boop

A quick chat with Bec Boop I’m so thrilled to be able to tell you that this weeks interview is with Irish blogger and Youtuber Rebecca from Bec Boop. She’s just moved to London and congratulations is in order as the blog is officially award winning. I hope you enjoy this interview and let me know what you think in the comments below. 1. Could you start by telling us a bit about yourself and your blog. I’m an Irish fashion & beauty blogger at Bec Boop and YouTuber. I also work as a professional accountant in an Audit Assistant Manager role. I’ve been blogging for over 2 years now and have been recognised in lots of awards and blogging competitions during this period. Most recently I won an Irish Style bloggers competition in association with Dr. Martens and I got to visit their factory which I vlogged for my YouTube channel. I’ve moved to London since February of this year to further develop my blog and YouTube channel. 2. How long have you been blogging for and what inspired you to start it? As mentioned I’ve been blogging for over 2 years now. I always loved writing and journalism but found myself studying to be a professional accountant. Once I had finished my studies I had a lot of spare time on my hands which is when I first got into blogging. I’ve always been a really creative person and blogging is my creative outlet. 3. What’s the best thing about having your blog/youtube channel? For me the best thing is constantly learning new skills and being able to enjoy such a creative outlet in my life. I love learning and since I started blogging and making videos on YouTube I’ve learned so much about editing, writing, photography and film-making. It’s a constant learning curve but something which I enjoy immensely. 4. What’s you’re top tips for budding bloggers? My top tip is not to expect your blog to ‘take off’ straight away. It generally takes months and even years for a blog to have a regular fan-base. I’d recommend sticking at it because it takes time to find your space in the blogging world and find your niche. By writing regularly you’ll be able to find your own blogging style. 5. What does a normal day look like for you? A normal weekday for me consists of going to work either at the accounting office where I work or at a clients site which generally involves travelling. I’ll sometimes attend an early morning breakfast bloggers press event or lunchtime bloggers event. I’ll have scheduled my social media posts and blog posts so I don’t need to worry about that while I’m at work. Then I’ll go home and spend the night working on the admin side of my blog – replying to emails, readers comments and inquiries. I might draft some more blog posts or work on some social media scheduling/editing until it’s bed-time! My weekends are spent completely working on the blog. I get up early, film videos and take photographs while it’s bright for my blog. I’ll then write the blog posts for the next week and edit my videos. I’ve been doing some London exploring at the weekends too and meeting up with other bloggers here in London which is fun. I like to let my hair down on a Saturday night after a long week of hard work and will usually head out with friends for dinner or drink. 6. Who’re your biggest style influences? My biggest style influences are in fact TV characters. Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl is my biggest style influence. My style is quite similar to hers and I usually have a bow in my hair at all times too! I also love the young Carrie Bradshaw’s style from the Carrie Diaries especially when she starts working for the magazine. I get quite a lot of inspiration from vintage style fashion and I’m lucky here in London there are lots of vintage markets to check out. 7. Who are your favourite bloggers/vloggers? My favourite blogger is an American blogger called – Naty who blogs at A Love Affair with Fashion. I also love She Wears Fashion and Le Blog de Betty. They would be the ones I read every post of, without fail. My favourite vloggers are Leanne Lim Walker and In the Frow. 8. What are your three favourite beauty products right now? I am absolutely loving the Urban Decay Vice 3 eyeshadow palette. There is such a wide range of colours in this palette all extremely highly pigmented and they can be combined to make some great day to night looks. I also really like the Kiko Cosmetics gel eye-liner which I only began to use recently and was really impressed with. Finally my constant beauty favourite is the Benefit Bad Gal mascara, it’s an older style but I absolutely love it for my everyday makeup look. 9. What lip product have you got in your hand bag right now? I have the Dior Lip Maximiser which I am also loving lately! 10.What are your three fashion essentials? My three fashion essentials are: ripped jeans, a sleeveless blazer and a stylish pair of black ankle boots. 11.What music are you listening to right now? Need you ask 🙂 It’s always Taylor Swift!
