Fellowes on the Move Healthy Workshop

Most people spend around 45 years of their life at work and if you have an office job then the impact that sitting down constantly should be something that is thought about seriously. We think about our health outside of work, maybe go to the gym or run in our spare time but thinking about our bodies while we’re at work is equally as important.

This is something that Fellowes think about a lot and this was obvious when they recently put on a fab event to introduce the new Viking sit stand desks and I jumped at the chance to be involved. The desks available easily adjust to raise and lower so that you can work both seated and standing – that’s the key alternating between the two. There have been endless articles about the research on the advantages of using these kind of desks but the main benefits that stood out to me are that it really helps increase productivity while at work and that can’t be a bad thing as everyone always wishes the were more hours in the day. It also helps with maintaining good posture too.

What I didn’t know is that using one of these desks can also help reduce the risk of obesity as allowing the movement between sitting and standing makes a person more alert, hence the productivity. This in turn can help you burn 50 more calories per hour and reducing the risk of loads of other nasties like heart disease and diabetes. Bonus!

My background in dance has always given me a love for looking after my body so as you can tell this was workshop was right up my street. Fellowes teamed up with Graze box and had also arranged for a smoothie and juice talk where we sampled some of both.  It’s important to think about what you eat and drink while you are at work too, while it’s easy to snack on chocolate bars and crisps, reaching for a handful of nuts, seeds or dried fruit can be a far healthier alternative and we tried these while we were going around the event too.

One thing that is often overlooked is your mental health and managing your stress levels in the work place is really important. Fellowes teamed up with a fitness instructor that taught us some simple stretches and breathing techniques that can help with short term effects of stress. Stretches help to loosen up muscles, prevent injury and will help with posture too. It’s all relevant!
The last people that Fellowes had on hand were some massage therapists who were giving shoulder, back, and arm massages.  It can be the perfect way to unwind.

Overall I loved learning about the new sit stand desks and I’ve already started to put a few of the tips that I learnt in the workshop into practice in my own life.
Tweet me and let me know if you’ve tried a sit stand desk in the comments below.
Happy working!

New Look OOTD: Fitness!

New Look got in touch to try out the recent fitness releases I jumped at the chance. Here’s some of my top picks for this season. I love a good pair of thick black leggings for spending time in the gym and classes. They are the most flattering in my experience and go with everything. I always love to liven them up a little though and choose pairs that are a little bit different so I’ve chosen these Black Believe Print Leggings. The touch of bronze in an outfit is really stylish and there’s always room for positivity too. The Dark Grey Cowl Neck sports sweater is great for sports. It’s dark grey/green colour is so flattering but it will still go with every outfit. It also has a lower back so it’ll cover those bits you may be a little more self conscience of. More importantly it’s amazingly soft and great for running in the cold. This one will be staple for my wardrobe now. The red mesh back sports vest is really light and goes well with a black or grey pair of leggings or jogging bottoms. It actually comes in several colours such as purple, grey, red, black and white so I’m sure to be going back to New Look to invest in a few more. The top keeps it’s shape really well and is actually really flattering too. It also goes really well over a crop top. I love to wear sports crop tops especially in Yoga or Ballet Barre which I’ve just started at my local gym. They’re also great to wear in the Summer when the weather starts to get a lot warmer. They can be worn over sports bra’s and this Black Padded sports Crop Top is really stylish and it’s fast becoming one of my favourites. It’s really soft, and it fits perfectly and again doesn’t loose it’s shape easily. Do you have any of these fitness items or will you be hot footing it down to New Look to get any of these items ? Let me know in the comments below or on twitter. Happy Shopping! IMG_4572 IMG_4525 IMG_4561 IMG_4558 IMG_4543 IMG_4547

Skechers Trainers

lovely pair of Skechers to try out in the gym, and I’ve been using them on the treadmills and cross trainers for the last few weeks. They’re really comfortable and best of all they’re light! My last pair of trainers felt a bit heavy, so now I feel like I’m running on little pockets of air. They’ve also got little reflective strips on the back so when I do go running in the park in the late afternoons I’m visible, which is always important! They’ve got a mesh fabric on top, which is good if you’re playing squash or doing an aerobics class where you need to change direction quickly. So if you’re looking to hit the gym in the new year to burn off a bit of that chocolate and left over turkey, have a look at the Brantano Women’s shoes page to grab yourself some new kicks for the new year. They might just make a great gift too! Happy running! img_4305 img_4306 img_4307 img_4308 img_4309 *in collaboration with Brantano, who have helped me break my PB over 5k!

Emily Hearts Gym wear!

IMG_2204 I  have been loving Zumba and the gym recently. It leaves me feeling energised and really happy so I thought it was about time I bought some clothes and trainers to aid this health kick so here’s my bright haul. I started with the Nike LunarGlide 6 in white, black and two types of pink. They’re so pretty but so bright too and they feel like I’m walking on air which is ultra cool. They give great stability and support  so those knees are feeling a little happier these days too. I also went to H&M. They have some mega cool clothing for running, classes and fitness so it was the perfect place to go. I decided on two bright razorback vest tops which go so well with my Nikes too. These also go so perfectly with the little grey sports bra I received for Christmas too. I bought some black leggings  that say ‘ You Go Girl’ on them in gold. They’re so stylish for working out in and how’s that for a positive mental attitude. Works for me! Do you have any of this fitness haul or have you got some other fitness things you think I should know about? Let me know in the comments below. Happy Shopping!
